  • An attempt to break goals into small steps to improve self-efficacy: A study of female softball players at University A
Joint Author, Sep. 2018, The 69th Annual Meeting of the Japanese Society of Physical Education, Tokushima University, This study targeted 45 female softball players from University A, and we decided to break down goals into small steps through two sessions of work to exploratory examine the effects. As a result, the average number of "specific contents" for achieving the goals written in the first session was 3.3±1.5, but increased to 7.8±1.7 in the second session. The above results show that breaking down goals into small steps by looking at them from the perspective of others and setting numerical goals has the potential to clarify the specific process that leads to the accumulation of successful experiences.
  • A study on the stability of competitive anxiety and depressive symptoms in athletes: Focusing on the time-series changes that occur before and after important matches
Joint Author, Sep. 2019, The 70th Annual Meeting of the Japanese Society of Physical Education, Keio University, This study compared competitive anxiety and depressive symptoms before important games and during off-game periods, and examined the degree to which they remained stable. The subjects of the study were 48 members of athletic teams at a sports university who answered questionnaires during both periods. The results showed that depressive symptoms remained stable before and after important games, without significant changes, but that depressive symptoms increased as competitive anxiety increased before games.
  • Examination of the process of depressive symptoms caused by competitive anxiety in athletes: Focus on cognitive variables????????
Joint Author, Nov. 2019, The 46th Annual Meeting of the Japanese Society of Sport Psychology, University of Tsukuba, In this study, we assumed that competitive anxiety may increase before a tournament (game) and examined the process of the onset of depressive symptoms. We also examined cognitive variables for intervention. The subjects of the study were 603 students enrolled in a sports university. Path analysis showed that threat perception and inference errors increase depressive symptoms through competitive anxiety, and that inference errors directly increase depressive symptoms. Furthermore, it was shown that cognitive control may reduce depressive states directly or through competitive anxiety.
  • Examination of utilization method for Mandala Chart
Joint Author, Aug. 2020, The 2020 Yokohama Sport Conference, Among the goal-setting techniques in mental training, the Mandala Chart is often used as a tool to "visualize" the elements necessary to achieve a goal. However, there are no studies that have examined the specific analysis and utilization methods of the Mandala Chart. Therefore, in this study, we decided to examine the analysis and utilization methods of the Mandala Chart. As a result, we were able to examine the points that the current team considers important in achieving goals, the characteristics of each position, and the degree of sharing between players and between players and coaches.
  • Characteristics of competitive anxiety and cognitive variables according to the severity of depressive symptoms in athletes
Joint Author, Nov. 2020, The 47th Annual Meeting of the Japanese Society of Sport Psychology, Online, In this study, we aimed to clarify the characteristics of competitive anxiety and the relationship with cognitive variables when classifying athletes according to the severity of depressive symptoms, and to explore variables that could lead to intervention. The survey subjects were 603 students enrolled in a sports university. As a result, in terms of characteristics according to the severity of the athletes, there was no significant difference between asymptomatic and mildly symptomatic athletes, and the relationship between competitive anxiety and cognitive variables changed over time. However, it was shown that the relationship between competitive anxiety and cognitive variables became stronger when athletes had moderate or severe symptoms.

  • Consideration from the perspective of meaning to improve athletes' logical thinking errors
Sole Author, Oct. 2023, The 50th Annual Meeting of the Japanese Society of Sport Psychology, This study exploratory examined the effect of assimilation and accommodation of meaning aimed at reducing inference errors on depressive symptoms. The survey subjects were 1,317 people affiliated with a sports university, of which 980 who answered that they were continuing to play were analyzed. The results showed that while inference errors in athletes have a high impact on depressive symptoms, it is possible that depressive symptoms can be reduced through accommodation of meaning. However, accommodation can be dangerous as it can lead to negative understanding and interpretation due to newly obtained information in the process of trying to modify one's own perspective and way of thinking, so it is thought that when providing assistance or intervention, it is necessary to work towards a positive direction.
