Implementation and Evaluation of Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights Education in Adolescents and Young Adults with Spina Bifida

After interview with adolescents and young adults with spina bifida and their family sexuality and reproductive health and rights, we conducted a questionnaire based on the results and investigated the actual state of that. The question items were included their physical and psychological changes in adolescent and sexuality and reproductive haalth. As a result, about 60% of adolescents and young adults had interest in sexuality and got an erection. Ejaculation was seen in about 50%, and sex experience was about 20%. In the family, about 70% parents responded that there was a future concern about their children's sexuality and reporoductive health, but about 30% didn't have what they wanted to know and tell.

Dummy Simulating a Wheelchair User for Evaluation of Assistive Products and Technology

The purpose of this study is to develop some humanoid dummies which simulate wheelchair users such as persons with spinal cord injuries. The dummies are expected to evaluate assistive devices, e.g. seat cushions for tissue integrity, shower chairs, clothes and so forth. The dummies developed can imitate various kinds of movements, postures and shapes of wheelchair users. One of the developed dummies is equipped with several sensors, which can measure clothing pressures before and after armor deformation. Another dummy can measure compressive and shearing loads under the ischial tuberosities and the sacrum. Utilizing the developed dummies, compressive and shearing loads under the ischial tuberosities were measured when they sat on different kinds of seat cushions and toilet seats. As a result, it proved that the dummies are useful for evaluating assistive devices such as seat cushions and clothes.

We made focus group interview and/or individual interview to female with spina bifida, their families and medical personnel. We made a draft of reproductive health care model and care program. In addition, we participated in the international conferences in USA and visited aspina bifida clinic, and SHINE and etc in England. We had some knew knowledge of comprehensive reproductive health care for spina bifida. We made a education materials "Reproductive Health Care Guidebook for Female Adolescent with Spina Bifida "
