- Process of reaching out to parents when childcare professionals advise “the need for specialized support”
Kahori Sato
Mar. 2025, [Reviewed]
The purpose of this study is to clarify the process of childcare professionals reaching out to parents when advising the ‘need of specialized support’ for children with developmental challenges. Using an inductive approach, This paper analyzed qualitative data gathered from semi-structured interviews with 22 childcare professionals. As a result, eight categories that constitute the process were extracted: “childcare professional identity,” “create opportunities to share understanding of the actual situation with parents,” “determine when to advise parents,” “use methods to communicate with parents effectively,” “parents’ response,” “conflict experience,” “external accelerator (facilitating factor),” and “external brakes (inhibiting factor).” Based on “childcare professional identity,” childcare professionals “create opportunities to share understanding of the actual situation with parents.” Then, they “determine when to advise parents” and “use methods to communicate with them effectively.” Finally, after gaining “parents’ response,” they return to “childcare professional identity,” completing a circular process. Furthermore, childcare professionals held “conflict experience” throughout the process. This “conflict experience” was affected by “external accelerator” by preschool system and external specialists, and “external brakes” by local childcare support programs. The process comprising the eight categories was conducted comprehensively and repeatedly in daily childcare practices. - Practical Support for Parenting and Student Education at the Campus Parent-Child Square: Practices and Prospects for 2024 'Puri Puri Kids Univa'

Mar. 2005
This study targeted boys in upper elementary to middle school who have been diagnosed with high-functioning PDD (Autism Spectrum Disorder), comparing their awareness and cognition of self as perceived by others with that of typically developing children. Previous research had suggested that the self-awareness of children with PDD as viewed by others might be weak. However, this study observed a high level of public self-awareness in children with PDD. Additionally, regarding cognitive aspects, children with PDD rated their harmony and control higher than the perceptions of others (mothers), resulting in outcomes that were unique to children with PDD compared to the control group.
