Japanese Society of Health Promotion, Mar. 2025, [Invited] - Processes related to sharing issues in employment transition support

Health Promotion Research, Mar. 2024, [Reviewed]
Purpose: The aims of This study was to explore the process of problem-sharing within a specific employment transition support office in X prefecture and its affiliated organizations. This investigation seeks to provide insights into how the practice of problem-sharing might influence the retention of individuals with disabilities in the workplace."
Methods: The participants in this study included one service manager from a labor transition support office and seven supporters from partner agencies. These individuals regularly collaborated with the service manager in developing support for labor transition. A semi-structured interview method was employed, where participants were asked to recall and discuss (1) specific examples of how they connected with related organizations and individuals, (2) challenges and innovations in sharing support issues, and (3) outcomes of sharing these issues, using case studies for illustration.
Results: The results indicate that effective support for employment transition is facilitated through: 1) the exchange of feedback regarding the user's situation among all parties involved; 2) regular visits between the consultation support office, the employment
transition support office, and the employing company; 3) a mutual understanding of the concepts of 'working' and 'support' by all parties; 4) consideration of the user's assessment perspective; and 5) the provision of individualized support tailored to the user's expertise."
Conclusions: These processes involved the labor transition support office, counseling organizations, educational institutions, companies, individuals with disabilities, and their families in the sharing of issues. It was observed that the primary actors varied depending on the situation, with their level of involvement fluctuating between strong and weak. Future research will focus on exploring methods to improve the workplace retention of individuals with disabilities, drawing on the practices related to issue-sharing highlighted in this study."

The purpose of this study is to explore the process of support for competitive employment in a Vocational Support Center which cooperates with the Employment and Living Support Center for the Disabled. The survey was conducted on 6 staff members working in the center. The center was set up as an annex to the Employment and Living Support Center for persons with disabilities. Interviews were performed and the data was analyzed using the Shimanouchi Method Rise and Fall Charts. As a result we have found three characteristics unique to the center. 1) The staff of the center feel ambivalent toward the disabled on how to deal with these people on their normalization. 2) They are now trying to understand how their employment support activities should be, and share the knowledge with other supporters outside their institution. 3) The staff expressed their opinion that they need to build a system for the job retention of the disabled, while the director who is in charge of the center emphasized on the need for its stable management. Future research on support for competitive employment for individuals with intellectual disabilities needs to consider the practice and its assessment of challenges by supporting people both from their families and institutions involved. - 障害者雇用支援センターにおける知的障害がある訓練生の一般就労に向けた支援:主体性および社会性に関する評価を活用した取り組み
