BACKGROUND: We previously reported the nutritional characteristics and effects of the DASH-JUMP diet, which is a WASHOKU-modified DASH diet, in Japanese participants with untreated high-normal blood pressure or stage 1 hypertension. The dietary adherence of the DASH diet in Japanese participants has never been evaluated before. OBJECTIVE: We aimed to assess the relationships between dietary adherence, self-efficacy, and health behavior change among study participants who received the DASH-JUMP diet by home delivery. METHODS: Participants were treated with the DASH-JUMP diet for 2 months and consumed their usual diets for the next 4 months. We conducted surveys using the stage of behavior change model questionnaire and the modified perceived health competence scale Japanese version questionnaire at baseline and 1, 2, 3, and 6 months to assess dietary adherence. RESULTS: Forty-three participants (25 men, 18 women; mean age 53.6 ± 8.2 years) returned completed questionnaires, which we analyzed. Health behavior change was motivated by previous behavioral changes and improved biomarkers. The improvement and maintenance of self-efficacy were deeply related to health behavior change and previous self-efficacy. The experience of the DASH-JUMP study for participants included three processes to improve lifestyle habits: Phase 1, reflecting on previous lifestyle habits; Phase 2, learning through new experiences and the acquisition of knowledge; and Phase 3, desiring to maintain their own health. CONCLUSION: It indicated that the DASH-JUMP diet significantly increased self-efficacy and promoted health behavior change. - The Nutritional Characteristics of the Hypotensive WASHOKU-modified DASH Diet: A Sub-analysis of the DASH-JUMP Study.

山口医学, 01 May 2015The precise emotional process of middle-aged individuals after the onset of a first acute myocardial infarction(AMI)is not known. We sought to clarify the contents of middle-aged individuals'experience of having a first AMI. I interviewed with 11 individuals(10 men, 1 woman, aged 39 to 64 yrs)who had a first AMI about their AMI experience in the way of unstructured face-to-face interview. A qualitative phenomenological approach was used to clarify their experiences. Each individual described their psychological process from the point of experiencing the AMI through their recovery. They described facing their own potential death calmly. Their experiences could be classified as progressing through the following three phases over the course of their AMI onset, treatment and recovery. Phase 1:feeling of uncertain about their life and being upset, Phase 2:accepting life prospectively and thinking about self-control, and Phase 3:integrating their outlook for the future and their newly expanded view of life and death. The process of middle-aged individuals from onset to 3 months after a first AMI was very emotionally unstable. The results indicated a necessity for spiritual care promoting self-empowerment for patients with AMI.

This article explores the process of pattern recognition, contained within Newman's theory of health, as a nursing intervention with Japanese ryngectomees distressed long term.
The process of pattern recognition revealed four phases. Phase 1 : Participants express their concern. /Researcher shares participants' concern with them. Phase 2 : Participants see all over their life. /Researcher sences participants' pattern recognition, Phase 3 : Participants reconfirm their life, and find new way of life. /Researcher understands participants more profoundly, Phase 4 : Participants find out their new possibility, and become stable. /Researcher recognizes participants' transformation and growth.
Pattern recognition is the process of health as expanding consciousness. This nursing intervention is helpful for patients distressed long term.

Aim: The aim of this study was to develop a tool, the Family Caregiver Assessment Scale (FCAS) for people experiencing end of life at home. Methods: Using our early version of FCAS, which was composed of 57 items, data from 389 family caregivers were statistically analyzed. Results: As a result of exploratory factor analysis after eliminating items with ceiling effect, floor effect, and non-normal distribution, a total of five factors with19 items emerged. The item-total correlation coefficient was r=0.134-0.918 (P<0.01), and good-poor analysis showed significant differences (P<0.001) in all the 19 items. The Cronbach alpha coefficient of five factors were 0.810-0.927, and that of FCAS was 0.888. As results of confirmatory factor analysis, the Comparative fit index was 0.901, and the root mean square error of approximation was 0.09. As FACS was positively correlated with some of the components of Zarit Burden Interview. - Effects of Timing and Methods of Partial Bathing on Night Sleep

Experiment 1 : The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of the partial bathing such as leg bathing and forearm bathing at 42 degrees celsius on sleep. There were significant differences in slow wave sleep between the three conditions. And there were significant differences in feelings of subjective sleep such as sleepiness, anxiety and feelings of integrated sleep between the three conditions.
Experiment 2 : The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of the timing from 30miutes to 2 hours after forearm bathing at 42 degrees celsius on sleep. There were no significant differences between three conditions on PSG and subjective feelings. - Effects of Timing of Warm Bathing on Night Sleep
